"Disobedience is man's original virtue. It is through disobedience that progress has been made."
-Oscar Wilde
Brace yourself for a pistol-fast power-pop rocket ride known to the world as girlsplayboys. As one of those rare new acts drawing equal praise from fans, critics, and peers alike, this fired-up foursome charges up an emotionally-electric sound energized to the hilt having cracked its knuckles on a punk rock block. The group - formed by vocalist Jimmy and featuring bassist Stuart and drummer Jamie have already tread the underground pathways with several thriving indie albums, songs on several compilations and a diehard tour ethic that would make a big rig trucker faint. The band has defied media conventions by rising up with a balance of commercial-readiness and uncommon street cred born from the clash of bursting talent and do-or-die determination.
Girlsplayboys Are a shot in the arm for a scene that represents the true sound of youth right now. To merely call it punk rock is an insult to the intelligence of all involved… Girlsplayboys earned their stripes the only way a punk band can - by getting out there and doing it. It's essentially pop music, but pop music twisted into new forms…". Like a sharp knife plunged into the bloated white belly of society, girlsplayboy's tales tell of such timeless subjects as broken relationships, revenge, jealousy, self-loathing and excessive drinking. And in these strange times of political and religious turmoil its up to artists as cultural commentators to provide a bullshit-free slant on events and inform those wary of the mass media through the power of songs alone.
Now, with a forthcoming Record, girlsplayboys continue to make giant strides all inspired from the most humble beginnings. Founding member Jimmy single-handedly went back to basics and rocked a Woolworth's style four-track recorder to demo up his first inspired batch of punk rock songs.
As one might imagine, the C.V. of the band is impressive and have toured with such big guns as Less than Jake, Therapy?, Good Charlotte, The Ataris, The Dead Kennedys, Goldfinger, The Wildhearts, The Drips and many, many others, even scoring a main support on The Offspring Tour last year, etc...
With several major tours already under their belt, Jimmy hopes to hit full stride in 2007 with girlsplayboys establishing the group as a national presence while highlighting the bands ability to find the words that capture the emotional nuances of love gone wrong, alcohol & drug abuse. From Kerrang to the NME, even the press, who rarely support new punk-inspired artists have found themselves rallying behind the alternative act.
For all their accomplishments so far, Jimmy gives due credit to their fans. For this reason, the band does everything it can to give something back. They meet and greet as often as possible to allow even further interaction with the fans. With all their cannons in place, it's no wonder they find themselves with huge expectations for their future as a punk-rock band that has done things its way. So where do girlsplayboys go from here? Up, it seems. The band most likely to rise from the clubs and onto bigger stages and TV screens the world over, word is slowly spreading. This is no major label priority release, no over-night sensation, no hype-laden start-of-ar great white hope. This is punk rock with a big beating heart and its head screwed on, pure and simple. "The more bands busting into the mainstream the merrier, as far as I'm concerned," frontman Jimmy states "We really don't care how you dress, who you are, where you're from or what else you listen to. If you're into the music, then that's good enough for us…"
