Glen Travis Campbell I suppose, could be considered one of the most overlooked talents of the modern music era. He began his journey in Arkansas, playing a Sears guitar at the age of four. His adolesence was spent in Phoenix playing in his uncle's band. At twenty two he set out for Los Angeles and spent the next ten years honing his craft. You can hear him in the background of many "top-drawer" crooners of the day; such as Dean Martin, Sinatra, and the Beach Boys. Campbell became known as one of Phil Spector's infamous "Wrecking Crew" and was sought after for session work to the "greats". 1967 Campbell's fuse "lit" with the release of Gentle on My Mind, then again in 1968 with By The Time I get to Phoenix and again in 1969 with Witchita Lineman. Campbell always had the ability to marry the "country" genre with "pop". The prolific penmanship of Jimmy Webb may have gone without due notoriety, if not for the clear, crisp balladeer voice of Glen Campbell. Campbell's contribution to music is timeless. His delivery of Wichita Lineman has lasted since 1969. I predict it will last another 30 years or so. Glen Campbell, a great talent, that most people my age have forgotten and the younger generations have overlooked altogether.
