GONE
Toronto, Canada
Gone band picGone are a three piece band formed and based out of Toronto, Canada. The music of Gone is best described as pop/rock with an edge with melodic hooky melodies that is sure to ring in the listeners ears. Gone comprises lead singer/guitarist Eddy Culjak, bass player/back up vocalist Rick King and Stacey Hughes on drums.
The story of Gone starts with Eddy Culjak. Eddy is the sole songwriter of the band and front man around whom Gone coalesced. Eddy was born in Edmonton, Alberta but spent most of his life in Toronto, Ontario. He began playing guitar at the age of 12 and fell in love with it instantly, soon becoming an obsession. He would often skip school to go home and practice and write songs. As a result of performing in high school talent shows and hitting every open mike he knew, Eddy knew that music was what he wanted to do with his life.
Soon after getting the band together Eddy successfully applied for a government grant fromEddy Culjak Factor to record a three song demo. At about this time his band members were starting to take other directions and eventually the band went its own way. Eddy searched for a solid group of guys following their departure and soon hooked up with Stacey Hughes and Rick King. The band promptly started to play shows and get a tight unit going, in the process developing a great chemistry and knowing they had something which they all wanted to take to the next level.
The boys went into the studio to record a demo to shop. They soon caught the attention of a label in the U.S called Alamo Records which offered a 3 album deal upon hearing the demo. The deal was cut and they were soon in the studio recording their first full length CD. The CD was soon completed and ready to go when shortly after they got news that the label was going under and shutting down. It was an unfortunate moment for the band. However, they decided to go on and re-shop the material and it was soon picked up by Dead Love Records. Gone decided to tweak some songs off the old album and get down some new ones for their full length album with Dead Love, which is nearing release.
rockin 1 The music of the current Gone album has been compared to bands as diverse as Nirvana and The Goo Goo Dolls. It offers a wide range of up-tempo rock tunes to melodic ballads. The album shows a very versatile band which sets it apart from many others, while sustaining the continuity of the sound the band has created.
The title track of the album is 'So Far'. 'So Far' is an emotional up-tempo song about struggling with findingrockin 2 explanations in ones life. A solo piano version of So Far is included on the album and offers a whole different take to the song. It is sure to give the listener goose bumps.
The follow up track to So Far is enitled 'Last Night'. Last Night is a song that deals with the idea that, if things were to ever come to an end, how would one spend their last moments. This song has a very different instrumentation arrangement than other songs on the album featuring the classical guitar.
