Biography:
Miss Hala isn't your average Popstress in fact she's breaking all the rules!
Hala was always interested in music even from an early age as she watched the animatronic band Rock a Fire Explosion at Showbiz Pizza Place.
However her first kick into music came at the age of 10 when she was inspired by the Spice Girls. Her and her friends would dress up and emulate them. 'I was the Ginger one' she says of that time.
This little playtime fun eventually evolved into her and her friends making their own little girl group where they wrote their own songs and planned what kind of careers they wanted.
By the age of 13 Hala was obsessed with the music of the day and though her friends had long abandoned pop dreams she took hers to a new level. 'My first experience with anything 'different' came with the release of Stella Soliel's 'Kiss Kiss' which was a cover of a Turkish song. After that it was Sarah Connor and Lara Fabian both brilliant as well! They really inspired me to go a whole different direction with the pop I loved'
She started vocal and guitar lessons and began trying to perform whenever she could. However this was in Iowa and she barely had a chance to get out and sing! 'There is NO where in Iowa to perform, no matter what kind of music you want to do. So I enjoyed singing karaoke at one of the local pubs every week. They had a good selection of Euro music so it was good fun and training at the same time!'
At the age of 16 she started belly dancing and a love of a new music followed. 'My first belly dancing CD was by a band called Alabania. Id never heard anything so unique and a love and obsession for Arabic music soon followed!' Hala began to study all she could of this new music and a love of more International music soon followed.
Soon Hala came upon a problem: what type of music should she perform? One day it was rock, one day it was pop, and the next day it was pure international. After much thought she decided she didn't have to pick: she'd just mix them all!
The minute she turned 18 Hala moved from Iowa to Orlando, FL. She spent 2 years working the new 'Orlando Scene' with such bands as Ben Bledsoe and Letterperfect. "After that expierence I wrote the book on dealing with 'rock stars'!" Hala laughs. In 2007 she began writing a book titled: "The Girl's Guide to Rock Stars: Everything from being one to dating one!". She is currently putting the finishing touches before seeking publishing.
After dealing with 'boys' and writing her wisdom down Hala set foot to musically conquer Orlando herself. She started O Diamond Records and began her own management company Kuromi Spice Productions. She knew she had to clean up the scene: "Everyone was so down on local music and our city in particular. I decided something had to be done."
For her own project Hala wanted some girl power: "The worst thing is no matter where you are...women just don't play! I wanted to change that. I wanted to be a role model for all the little girls out there." In August 2007 with that in mind Hala created Saturday Night Divas a band of women who play their own instruments, sing, dance, and write their own material. The band expects to be performing in mid 2008.
