Personally i hate emo. period. its stupid, the whole idea of depression just kind of depresses me :) but seriously there is not point in singing all of your songs about depressing things, i hate emo. ive said it once and ill say it again. I dont think its the new punk/trend, i think its just because all of these emo bands get a one hit wonder and all of the sudden they are cool and loved by preppy bitches and then that depresses the 'real emos' moreso. The main thing that pisses me off about 'them' is the way they dress, i mean it doesnt really matter either way i guess, its all up to them how they dress, but why? i mean im a guy and i know i wouldnt want to be caught dead wearing eyeliner and/or womens pants, and the hair, some of it isnt bad, but they get pretty extreme. And then theres the emos that always try to get attention, ive known some who have literally cut their wrists for attention, its just dumb, one day i hope they learn that this is just a fad and that there is no point in dressing like a girl, that died in the eighties. enough said. | crimsonandred |
I'm sure I read somewhere that Emo was a "lame imitation of Punk" or "Punk with more crying" or something like that. Someone asked me today whether emo was just "Goth" without the make up. Have to disagree.
Yes, I think that emo is the new "trend" and with it brings in a load of new "posers" who want to be "emo" to "fit in" but just end up looking stupid. I have no problem with people dressing "emo" or whatever (in fact I welcome it ^.^) but it's just annoying that, like every other trend that ever existed, there are people who want to look that way because it's the new "in" look.
I hate "fashion" so I think I'm changing the way I dress to avoid being called a "poser" =P lol. Don't think emo's going to catch on where I live so I think I'm safe =P
I also don't see what the problem is with guys wearing eyeliner. I suppose it's because make up is a "girl thing" but I thought that view went out of the window ages ago... | CoNe_LoVeR_666 |
oh where to begin...emo isn't really a trend..or even trying to make a statement...its not even really about depression..its about expressing the music. emo is beautiful..it makes pain & heartache a beautiful thing. & no, emo isn't the new punk. you're friend probably hasnt grasped the concept of its definition, & is basing her assuptions on it the way mtv plays emo off ((which is a horrible interpretation to follow)) fallout boy..not emo. hawthorne heights..eehh...theyre more indie/post hardcore...both are good bands ...just not good "emo" bands. emo is beautiful.punk is loud.theres really no replacing one with the other. | xX_Emo_Kisses_Xx |
hawthorne heights = emocore/indie/hardcore
sorry bout that | xX_Emo_Kisses_Xx |
"is basing her assuptions"
**his
I think it's just a matter of opinion because emo seems to be taking over! (Well not more than chavs...) | CoNe_LoVeR_666 |
wow. crimsonandred(who i agree with on this issue)just complained about a band singing about politics. NOW he is complaining about bands who sing about depression. what the hell? | SOADfreak |
I 'complain' about singing about politics because politics cause so much anger and people get so pissed when they talk about it because their candidate is 'always right' no matter what, and nobody wants to listen to a bunch of that shit, especially in music, plus they scream like no other, 'screamo' is one thing but SOAD is a whole new slew of yells. As for depressing music, i hate it, yes, there is no point in singing about being depressed and how much the world sucks. Thats why i dont like country music(that and the fact it plain out sounds like shit) but country music is too depressing, its been said that if you are having a shitty day to NOT listen to country music because it WILL make you depressed. But emo is no different, why listen to music that will make you want to kill yourself? it doesnt make sense to me.(plus i think most of the lead singers for these emo bands have high whiny voices that get annoying) | crimsonandred |
Politics confuses me... lol.
I'm really confusing then because when I listen to "emo" songs, they make me feel better, not worse. Some of the songs that I listen to have really depressing lyrics but they seem to make everything *right* for me in the world (when in reality the human race is fucked =D). | CoNe_LoVeR_666 |
That doesnt make sense. Emo music is depressing, but its not just that, the way guys dress themselves up like women, whats that all about? That REALLY doesnt make any sense, guys used to do that in the eighties too, and it was gay back then, now its gotten worse because you see these guys and they are just creepy looking, they have the bleeding mascara(pardon the pun) makeup, lipstick, BLACK hair, blacker than black hair mind you, and they are all dressed in black too, i just dont get it, is there some reasoning to this, someone explain this to me. | crimsonandred |
actually..."coner" is right...i guess it all really depends on who you are & how you react to specific things.when i am depressed...i listen to emo, it sort of calms me down i guess..it pulls me in..its sort of liked an "escape"...when im pissed..i listen to hardcore..get all my frustration out in the music....it works for me i guess...once again..i guess it all depends on who you are... | xX_Emo_Kisses_Xx |
as far as the whole dressing thing goes..i personally think it's beautiful on a guy...which of course, ive always had a thing for guys who wear make up...i remember when i was little, i fell in LOVE with robert smith, because he was the first guy id seen to wear lipstick ((note: he wasnt the first to...just the first id SEEN at that age)) emo..it isnt all about depression..its a lifestyle....there are two different kinds of emo kids.(for the most part)
you have your "original emo" kids...the thick black-rimmed glasses, the advertisement tees, tight jeans, guys still wearing some girl clothing
then you have your "new age" emo kids. the dyed black hair, loads of eyeliner, guys sometimes wearing other makeup..usually a lip piercing or two....
there..you happy?..i just filled in your stereotyping for you. i figured id get it out of the way...
theres really no specific reasoning for the dressing..its music expressed through fasion....& i think its beautiful. | xX_Emo_Kisses_Xx |
"'screamo' is one thing but SOAD is a
whole new slew of yells."
so you only like screaming that sounds the same. and we have gone over the whole SOAD screaming thing. they dont scream that often. they do much more singing than screaming. i am sorry you still cannot comprehend what i have been telling you.
"As for depressing
music, i hate it, yes, there is no point in
singing about being depressed and how much
the world sucks."
atreyu's music is even more whiney and depressing than hawthorne heights. | SOADfreak |
SOAD im not gonna get into it with you again, because i think its annoying when you come in and talk shit about everything. | crimsonandred |
Hey EmoKisses, thanks for that clarification, i know its all about expression, i just think its weird, i couldnt stand wearing black all of the time and i especailly couldnt stand it to wear girls pants(yes ive seen it and i dont know how it is physically possible lol:) ) but thats okay, whatever floats your boat right? and heres a question, is hawthorne heights considered emo, that somewhat have that 'style' and i guess some of there stuff might be 'emo' but i dont know if they are or not, either way i like em, theyre sweet. | crimsonandred |
Emo died in '84.
What is out now is Screamo.
Huge fuckin' difference. | losersalwayswin |
In your eyes, every fucking music genre *died* at least a decade ago **rolls eyes** =) | CoNe_LoVeR_666 |
emo definately didnt die in 84 :s
a slew of emo bands came up in the 90s..& obviously it isnt dead...or we wouldnt be ON the topic. & yes..there is still emo out. hawthorne heights..eehh..i wouldnt as much consider it emo as i would indie rock... | xX_Emo_Kisses_Xx |
I agree with EmoKisses, it obviously isnt dead(sadly - jk) but yes there is screamo as well. I dont know, i guess its all a matter of what you would call 'emo' | crimsonandred |
| i like to consider it all crap in general. | SOADfreak |
punk died in the late 70s early 80s yet people for some reason still think Green day is punk so yes i think this new genre isnt emo yes screamo or power pop not emo and emo stands for emotional punk and the "emo we have around now is talking about cutting our wrists because our girlfriend dumped us not politics | FattyMcfatfat18 |
and its music not a fasion trend its what ever makes your "ears pleasured" i listen to grunge yet people expect me to wherev flannal and i say i listen to it | FattyMcfatfat18 |
No it isn't.
Real emo is actually a subgenre of hardcore
orginal emo was just like hardcore but with more emotions
the "emo" we listen is not actual emo
the emo we listen to the term for it was coined in the late 90s by people trying to describe bands like braid and promise ring ,and the getup kids
do you remember when we called "emo" bands pop punk? | smorgy |
im telling you guys, calling it crap makes it a lot easier. | SOADfreak |
once again..emo did not die in the 80's people...it made its biggest break in the 90's...& something obviously can't make a break if it's dead.
the promise ring IS emo.
the get up kids
juliana theory
bright eyes (more on the indie side though)
& no..those bands' songs arent all about cutting your wrists or whatever.
it disapoints me that people assume things, based on what they hear, or what they bring it upon themselves to say as fact. | xX_Emo_Kisses_Xx |
yes, once again people, you need to be general.
genre? crap.
lyrics? whining. | SOADfreak |
okay..i'm trying to make an intellegent argument..you're just jumping in with random mindless comments...but carry on..i mean, whatever entertains you... | xX_Emo_Kisses_Xx |
I agree with EmoKisses that the songs arent all about cutting your wrists and what not, but i also agree with SOADfreak, they are too whiny, i dont know, some bands just have too whiny of a lead singer, and the lyrics are the same way, but i do like to listen to an occasional emo song
| crimsonandred |
being emo doesnt mean being a heartbroken loser who has nowhere 2 turn to but music. i dont care what other people think about emo cause my only concern is what i think. i think emo is expressing your feelings in lyrics or poems. | lefsa |
not mindless.
hawthorne heights. thats mindless.
random? yes. mindless? no.
and thats quite okay, this whole site is random(and mindless). | SOADfreak |

emo is not the new punk.......emo is just a phase. people will stop acting depressed over the probloms they don't have when they grow up and as for "emo" music, emo does not stand for emotional. if you think about it, every type of music is emo because every type of music has some kind of emotion. emo isn't even a real genere. it's just something for people to make money on. i do really like all the "emo" bands as some of you people put it though | blackrain13 |
calling it emo is not purly for the use of calling 'emotional.' it puts the extra emphasis on it, as in these emo bands are just taking the emotion shit too far. | SOADfreak |
Ugh. Stupid emo-haters. It's sad. And what you are describing is scene, not emo. Now excuse me, I am depressed right now, I need to let it out. Goodbye world. | Suffocate_Me_Dry |
im not an emo hater, i said i do like those so called emo bands | blackrain13 |
How dare anyone compare emo to punk! maybe it is the "new thing" but it fucking sux balls! I cannot belive anyone would listen to that shit. You heard me Hawthorne Heights,Taking Back Sunday, and Story Of The Year, YOU SUCK!!!!!!! | Fender |
| Oh, and From First To Last | Fender |
now hopefully that asshole suffocate_me_dry let their emotions out by killing themselves.
if you did not, i strongly adise you to do so! | SOADfreak |
