| Everything tends to sound the same now a days. When Christopher Baur approached bassist Eric Mergens in January 2004, it was not to create a modern rock sound heard streaming from every local band playing a gig downtown, but something a bit more time tested. What first came out of "Grandma's living room" was a Beatles' cover song. The immedeate merger of Christopher's classic rock guitar sylings and Eric's smooth, full bass tones led to an inspiration to not make this the last time they played together...and it wasn't. Shortly after, the duo added the phenominal vocal approaches of Justin Cope who keyed in the harmony as well as lead realms. Not only did he provide Hi Lonesome with a new set of pipes, he added a new set of strings as a rhythm guitarist. With the short notice addition Saint Maybe's Mark Rhodes, the group now had something to show for its efforts thus far and played its first three songs at Charleston Southern Universtiy under the name Juice Ush. From here the group continued to write and mature its sound, and focused on this task for the months leading up to spring 2004. Not only was it a goal to add flavor to their music, but also to add a more permanent drummer. They had to look no further than Ryan Ashley who brought the glue to the group with his simplistic, yet uninhibited percussion technique. Now the band had its forth member and decided on the name Hi Lonesome, the play from the name of a Colorado chairlift, which speaks for more than just a people mover, it speaks for the way music is played through them. |
