Hole was created by Coutney Love, the daughter of Hank Harrison and widow of Kurt Cobain. Love was born July 9, 1965 in San Francisco California. This ex-stripper and actress played minor roles in Alex Cox's Sid And Nancy and Straight To Hell. She spent most of her time in and out of bording schools. Hole was formed in Los Angeles in 1991. Caroline Rue was on drums, Jill Emery on bass and Eric Erlandson on guitar. They quickly produced three kick ass singles,"Retard Girl,"Dicknail," and "Teenage Whore." Soon Emery and Rue left the band. Love found replacements in Kristin Pfaff on bass and Patty Schemel on drums. Tragedy struck when Pfaff was found dead from a heroin overdose in her bathtub about two months after the death of Kurt Cobain lead singer of Nirvana. She was quickly replaced by Melissa Auf Der Mar of Canada. She performed beautifully in Hole's World Tour in 1994. Soon after the release of their last album CELEBRITY SKIN in 1998 Auf Der Mar left Hole to join the Smashing Pumpkins.
