Hot Tuna was formed by original members of Jefferson Airplane,Guitarist,song writer,singer Jorma Kaukonen & bass player Jack Casady which have both been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Jora & Jack have been playing together since High School, which eans they have played together for alost 50 years.Hot Tuna began in the late '60s as a way to jam together. After Airplane gigs,recalls Jorma, "We'd go back to our hotel rooms,and Jack and I would drag out the guitars & play blues songs." Hot Tuna begin intergrating their side show into the Jefferson Airplane concerts, & soon begin booking their own concerts with a full band or someties just a duo.
Hot Tuna's next step was to record, which was in 1969 with a harp player Will Scarlett, with a self title debut "Hot Tuna". Their followup was in 1971 "First Pull Up,Then Pull Down" album where Jorma & Jack turned up the volume.
Hot Tuna's next release was BURGER'S, which is also their 1st studio release. Here we find Jorma beginning to really show how much talent he has with his song writing,lead vocals and becoming a leader.
In 1973 album Phosphorescent Rat was released. Jorma composed almost all the tunes on this album and the electric really begins to intensify.
Next album was "America's Choice" where Tuna has now become totally electrafied using the electric guitars to the max. Excellent drumer Bob Steeler was added on this album which pushed the rythum section of Jack Casady & Steeler to the heavy hard driving sound of the 3 peice power house band which many fans loved. At this time in their careers they were packing houses all over.
Yellow Fever was the next electric Hot Tuna album to be released. Jorma,Jack,& Bob have now become one of the best 3 peice power house bands probably since Cream and their fans loved every second of it, pacing concert hall all over.
Hoppkorv is Hot Tuna's last studio album and its a great one.
Hot Tuna is still going playing blues,rock & folk. Jorma also has a new solo album on Columbia Records "Blue Country Heart" which was nominated for a gramy.
