Rock n’ roll with a dash of Southern sensibilities, HOUSE OF FOOLS has the musical chops to back up their fresh sound. Classic influences like The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, and Queen blend with contemporary sounds like The Format and Elliott Smith. From the pop-friendly rhythm of “My Life Before Today” to the sweeping balladry of “Live And Learn,” HOUSE OF FOOLS’ songs grab the ear with carefully orchestrated layers of keyboards and multiple guitars. The open-hearted lyrics are icing on the cake. The self-titled EP and subsequent full-length are produced by Walt Vincent (Pete Yorn, The Format) with additional mixing and production by Mike Green (Paramore, The Matches). Guest musician Rami Jaffee (The Wallflowers) adds accordion and organ to the track “Better Part Of Me.”
HOUSE OF FOOLS’ lead singer Josh King along with guitarists Joel Kiser, David McLaughlin and bassist Jeff Linn formed a musical partnership in The Necessary, a Greensboro music scene staple and local favorite. HOUSE OF FOOLS started as a side project for King who began writing songs with keyboardist Matt Bowers. Eventually, the side project became the main attraction and drummer Phil Bell was added to round out the sextet. To record their first album, the band set their sites on Walt Vincent because of his work with Pete Yorn. Upon speaking with Vincent, King says. “ He caught the vibe. He knew what we were going for: Pink Floyd meets The Beatles meets Elliott Smith.” HOUSE OF FOOLS was selected by Alternative Press magazine as one of "100 Bands You Need To Know In 2006." |
