| There isn't an easy category on the shelves of Barnes & Noble for ilyAIMY. We might be folk (nominated in 2002 for a WAMMIE for Best Contemporary Folk act by the Washington Area Music Association - won the Takoma Park Folk Festival Showcase in 2004 and rob hinkal and Heather Lloyd are both finalists in the 2005 Susquehanna Music and Arts Festival singer/songwriter competition), or we might be "alternative" (nominated in 2001 for a WAMMIE for Best Alternative Rock Album). We might be rock, or "neo-folk" or any number of things. We call ourselves acoustic grunge, but they probably won't print up a little placard just for US.
We've been accused of being a cross between Jethro Tull and Tool - with the guitar stylings of Ani Difranco, the frenetic energy of Nickel Creek on crack, the vocal intricacies of quickly spewn rap with the vocal harmonies of Cry! Cry! Cry!. Heavily seasoned by such wide-ranging influences as Alice in Chains, Cypress Hill, the Indigo Girls, Metallica... R&B, heavy metal, gospel choirs and bluegrass, ilyAIMY is a very modern take on folk music.
Fronted by acoustic guitars and tightly interwoven harmonies, ilyAIMY is a high-energy creature of Live percussive performance.
ilyAIMY is Dangerous Music for Dangerous Times. |
