J-Live hit audiences with his single, “Bragging Writes,” in 1995. Soon after, he attracted even more attention with his single, “Hush the Crowd,” in 1996. His debut, full-length album was highly anticipated. He entered the recording studio and, with the help of producers DJ Premier, and Prince Paul, constructed The Best Part. The album, however, was delayed five years in being released. J-Live got into a lot of trouble when there was a bootlegging scandal. There were rumors that he had been a leader in it. J-Live was also have legal troubled with his label. While waiting for everything to be sorted out, the rapper worked as an eight-grade teacher. In 2001, The Best part was finally released. In November 2003, J-Live released Always Will Be.
