Biography

Through captivating and colorful lyrics, distinguishable melodies, and the conglomeration of personalities of three lead singers, J minus skillfully creates a musical experience making “fresh footprints in an untouched domain” (cdbaby.com). The music of J minus spans the boundaries of rock, laying new ground between the postmodern alternative genre and the upbeat, yet subtle emotional delivery of acoustic rock.

Dylan Fant, a Seattle-based songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and recording engineer had a vision for his lyrics and music, but lacked the voice to sing any chord outside of J minus. Trevor Wheetman came to the rescue, bringing Dylan’s lyrics to life. Realizing soon after that they had something to tell, they enlisted the voice of Chris Mongillo to complete the bittersweet storytelling. The raw J minus was born! Dylan's songs were familiar stories of love, longing, and loss, while Chris Mongillo gave insight to personal awakening in the world, Trevor Wheetman spoke through poetry and metaphor. Together, their combined efforts although melodically varied, became unified to complete a musical genre of their own. With Dylan and Chris’ instrumental talent and the vocal brilliance of two singers, and special appearances by vocalist Tasha Ehoff, the group had the elements needed to release their debut album ‘Sun and Moon’ (August 2006). Although the album proved to be a success, creating much-anticipated online buzz, the foursome knew they weren’t complete. In a matter of weeks following the debut, the group enlisted the talents of bassist, Myer Harrell and guitarist, Matt Gamboa to bring the heartfelt recordings to life. Shortly after, the group, as it stands today, began playing shows around the Seattle area, gathering fans, friends, and filling venues along the way. Although often compared to contemporary artists such as the Goo Goo Dolls, The Fray and Death Cab for Cutie, J minus has created its own distinguishable and identifiable sound that is nothing short of groundbreaking. With memorable hooks, rhythmic sophistication, and guitar-driven depth, the music of J minus is known for creating the emotional attachment craved by listeners of all ages.
