| From the time she could talk she was singing, but it wasn't till sometime later that she picked up the guitar.
I've always loved to sing, I received my first guitar when I was a little kid and pretended to play up until I was 13, when I seriously started teaching myself.
Participating (singing) in several productions in grade school she stepped away from performing in front of people, throughout the remainder of her time in Middle and High School.
Playing guitar and singing was something that was definitely behind the scenes for me, up until 1999 when I graduated, my best friend and some friends from school formed a band.
Twenty three played local gigs in their hometown of Louisa, Kentucky. It wasn't until they heard about a CD of local artists being put together that things got semi serious with the band.
Having a cut on the New Sounds of the Country Music Hwy was exciting for us of course. It meant more people would actually hear us and that's something I've always wanted whether I was hiding the fact that I could play and sing or when I was actually out there doing it.
Twenty three was also asked to perform live for the CD release party. It was there in the middle of a song a note ( that I still have ) was passed to the stage asking them to play at the “Highway 23 Jamboree”. They performed that show several months later and went their separate ways that night.
Playing the Jamboree and actually standing on the stage at the Paramount Arts Center meant so much to me. We had agreed we didn't want the same thing as a band but also agreed to play that show and I'm so glad we did, I might not be where I am today had we not. That night we were asked to play, the note sent up to us was from Judy Jennings and I remember exactly what she said after we agreed to play. “The moment she opened her mouth, I knew we had to get you guys on the Jamboree”…
Jamie ended up playing in a band she formed calling it Endless Highway with her brother, uncle and his brother at several local shows. Further on down the road Amy joined.
Eventually it ended up being us three; we've taken many chances along the way and have had nothing but a positive outcome from them all. And with all that being said it brings us to the “now”.
We're playing many different places and I'm meeting some great people along the way that want to do nothing but help us. I'm still very much in contact with Judy Jennings, she's helped us and been so nice, inviting us to shows, getting us shows and she is currently helping me with pitching a song I've written. I thank her every chance I get, if we hadn't met I know we wouldn't be where we are now…
But for right now I'm focusing on my degree and writing songs.
That about does it for now... to be continued. |
