Jason Mraz grew up listening to Dave Matthews Band and The Agents of Good Root in his hometown of Mechansville, Virginia. He first became interested in music whe he began working in musical theatre. After graduating from high school, Mraz moved to New York to attend the American Music and Dramatic Academy. He was only there one year before he dropped out. Mraz began to learn the guitar, and focus on songwriting. He then moved back to Virginia. In 1999, Mraz re-located to San Diego, California. Hebegan playing in local coffee shops and eventually landed a job as a regular at Java Joe’s Coffee Shop. It was at this time that he met drummer, Toca Rivera. The two began performing together; Mraz playing the acoustic guitar and singing and Rivera playing the djembe. Soon, Mraz began to get a following. His popularity spread all the way to Las Angeles where he was contacted by different record labels. In 2002, he signed to Elektric records. He then moved back to Virginia, and began writing songs. In 2003, he released aiting For My Rocket to come. The album was produced by John Algia (DMB, Ben Folds five, John Mayer, O.A.R.). The single, ‘You and I Both,” instantly became very popular.
