In 1989 the rock band named after the Basilisk (a type of lizard) was formed in Chicago, Illinois. Although never being able to find the mainstream success they deserve they play some of the best underground psuedo-industrial music. There music mainly driven by guitar and its heavy riff\\\'s.
Before 1989 the singer David Yow and Bassist David Wm. Sims were both members of the band Scratch Acid. After the break up of Scratch Acid the two David’s recruited guitar player Duane Denison. For a while it was just the trio who called themselves The Jesus Lizard. They didn\\\'t have a drummer so they used a drum machine until they found Mac McNeilly. Although McNeilly was replaced near the end of Jesus Lizard with Jim Kimball. The band members were strange as is but the singer was the most frenzied and at times crazy David Yow has been said to strip his clothing during concerts to be fully naked by only the middle of the concert. It wasn\\\'t just his antics but his incoherent vocals that sound almost like he’s singing in tongue.
In 1995 the band seemed to get there big break when the signed with Capitol records. Capitol records gave them a better chance to be heard when they played at Lollapalooza and put out two albums with the record company. In 1999 the band finally broke up after ten years.
After putting out 10 albums and EPs and a greatest hits CD in 2000 Jesus lizard had a great run and will always be remembered in underground fans. Although not many of the underground fans especially liked the material that was put out while on a record label hopefully they will get the recognition they deserve. To recommend an industrial rock band without naming The Jesus Lizard is something a true fan could never do.
