Jethro Tull, whose make everyone has heard of, are one of the defining great non-heard-of bands of the 70s.
Jethro Tull, whose realistic lyrics, creative style, and very good music was a huge hit with only a select few. It wasn't until 1971, when the album titled AQUALUNG came out on release, and became a top selling album. The album, which has the song "Aqualung" was about homeless people, has become one of the greatest, most well known songs ever written.
One of the elements that makes Jethro Tull so enduring is the fact that this British band has been around, in its various incarnations, for almost thirty (30) years.
In 1972, Tull followed the success of the previous album with THICK AS A BRICK with only contained one songs, one song of immense power, "Thick as a Brick". The album was defining point of the long, symphany-like music turned rock concept album ever made. It was different, it was brilliant. Most of Jethro Tull's music was due to Ian Anderson, the lead singer, who also played the flute for the band, whose talent came well to suck songs as "Cross-Eyed Mary" and "One White Duck".
Everyone seems to belive the band Jethro Tull is one man, one person with a back-up band. Everyone is wrong. Jethro Tull was an actual man, in the 18th century, and they just took his name. The band consists of Ian Anderson (lead vocals and flute), Andy Giddings (keyboards), John Noyce (bass) and Doane Perry (drums). Tony Iommi was once a part of Jethro Tull, but was fired because he was incompitent. He later joined Black Sabbath and became really famous.
In later years, A PASSION PLAY, among others, have become great albums, even though they didn't sell too well. Jethro Tull really is an amazing, crazy, genius band, who never seem to stop. They never officially broke up, and have rumors of another album in out recent future. It should be good, if their is one.
