He used his income to support his sister and himself while their mother was in prison. During this time, Jimmy began to write songs. Some of these songs would eventaully end up on his self titled debut album. He discovered that he was interested in a singing career at age 14.
After attending college and recieving a degree in criminal justice, he began to pursue his musical career. He moved to Nashville and began performing original music where ever he could. He was eventually signed to DreamWorks Nashville. His debut album "Jimmy Wayne" was released on June 24, 2003. His first single "Stay Gone" appeared on the Hot 100 Country Charts. His accomplishments include performing on the Grand Ol Opry, opening for Charlie Daniels for a crowd of 7,000, and touring with country superstar Tracy Lawrence.
