A Day N Da Life Of Jody Breeze
The backdrop is Griffin, Georgia, a small industrial town just about 40 miles south of Atlanta. With the main attraction being the Caterpillar Machinery Plant, there isn’t much to inspire the young residents along the way of music and entertainment. The town is what one makes of it, left to take destiny in their own hands as opportunities come far and in between, Jody Breeze decided to explore his athletic side at the very early age of 4 years old. He would split his time between playing basketball and football. Once Jody entered Middle School he focused solely on basketball all the way through to High School. During this time the streets began to catch his attention and enabled him to learn the way of the block and gain street knowledge first hand.
Jody soon found himself trying to perform a balancing act between maintaining his grades, staying on the basketball team and running the streets. Unfortunately, his grades dropped and he gave up basketball and school all together. Without basketball or the desire to further his education, the street dominated his life. Knowing that he needed to make a change and accomplish something, Jody returned back to school to complete his thirteen year and graduate high school.
Returning to the streets once again, Jody began to put words together in his mind to describe his day to day life. This skill soon developed into a smooth, natural flow and his peers on the block would make him practice everyday. Feeling confident Jody called the local radio station 97.9 FM in Macon, which had daily rap battles on air and battled another rapper for the first time and won. The success continued and the radio DJ told Jody to enter a battle at the radio sponsored local car show.
This was a fate that would change his life forever. Spitting lyrics reflecting his sense of humor and sharp realism with seamless effort, Jody easily destroyed his opponent. In attendance was industry veteran Noonie, (partners with Super Producer Jazze Pha of Sho’Nuff Records) who was so impressed by the Griffin native’s talent he followed Jody out to the parking lot and as he was getting into his car, Noon asked if Jody wanted to pursue rapping seriously. Jody said he wanted to see where the rap game would take him so Noon arranged a meeting immediately after the show with his partner. Jody would meet Jazze that night at the album release party for T.I. along with other hip-hop heavyweights such as Diddy, Lil Jon, 8ball and MJG. “My whole life changed in just one day,” recalls Jody. “In the blink of an eye, it was that quick, I thought I was dreamin’ fo real. Just meetin’ Jazze was enough to send me home happy.” But there was a lot more ahead for Jody as he signed with Sho’Nuff Records, an imprint of Warner Brothers and moved to the City to begin recording his debut album, ‘A Day N Da Life of Jody Breeze.’
However, Jody’s life would change once again as he met Block, who was putting together the group, Boyz N Da Hood. Seeing Jody’s talent, Block asked the youngster to join the group, which at that time consisted of T.I., Sean Paul of the Young Bloodz and Trick Daddy. Putting his solo project on hold, Jody had other ideas and expressed to Block that he wanted the group to be regular artists, not established ones so everyone would be equal. One day in the studio, hearing the beginnings of their first single, ‘Dem Boyz’, Trick Daddy passed on the song. So the group changed to Jody, Big Gee and Duke. Block would then add Young Jeezy to complete the formula and a month later the group found themselves signed to Bad Boy South. Jody, the youngest member of the group was able to exercise his writing skills and express profound lyrics on the album with hits like ‘Dem Boyz’ which skyrocketed to the top of the charts and became a summer anthem of 2005.
After achieving the success with Boyz N Da Hood, Jody is now refocused on his solo project and has support from Jazze Pha and Sho’Nuff Records/Warner Brothers to create a soon to be classic album. Jazze was impressed by his young prodigy’s natural talent from the moment he met him. “Jody is pure hood lyricism at its finest,” says Jazze. “I think he truly defines the views of a real street hustler. There are a lot of rappers that rap but he gets it, he truly understands what makes rap work.”
Jazze’s words could not ring truer with the highly anticipating debut album, ‘A Day N Da Life of Jody Breeze.’ set for release in 2006. Displaying all of Jody’s attributes, one minute player, street hustler or comedian but always keeping it real, the album features production from Jazze Pha, DJ Quik, Scott Storch, Cool & Dre and underground cats from the Boyz N Da Hood project as well as features from Freeway, Lil Wayne, TBoz, Too Short, Trick Daddy, Bun B, Pimp C, Rick Ross and Boyz N Da Hood.
Growing up Jody never dreamed of becoming a rap star, but sometimes sheer greatness is undeniable and finds a way to be discovered as if forced out of the pavement of a crowded city sidewalk.
