Joe started playing back in the late seventies, influenced by many of the great heavy rock and blues bands of the period, like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. Joe started off as a guitar teacher and session player before becoming famous as a performer. He taught many famous guitarists to play, including Metallica's Kirk Hammett and the guitar legend, Steve Vai. Steve and Joe are still good friends to this day.
Joe's current band in the year 2000 features the talents of arguably the best bassist in the world today, Stuart Hamm and the fantastic time-keeping of the amazing drummer Jeff Campitelli. Occassionally Joe has also been joined by his producer Eric Caudieux on rhythm guitar and keyboards.
Joe Satriani or 'Satch' as he is known in the guitar world is known as probably the greatest guitarist who has ever walked the Earth. He has revolutionised playing with amazing methods such as dynamic use of the tremolo bar and has taken the famous two-handed tapping method two new levels.
Joe has organised many great guitar world tours, by the name of 'G3' which tours three of the best guitarists around the world each year. Previous guests with Joe have included Steve Vai, Michael Schenker, Uli John Roth and Eric Johnson.
Album's include 'Flying In a Blue Dream' 'Dreaming #11' 'Surfing With the Alien' 'Time Machine' 'Joe Satriani' 'Crystal Planet' and Joe's newest album, 'Engines of Creation'. Also available is a live recording of a 1996 G3 tour show, 'G3 Live in Concert'.
