Jug Honeyluv, Mc J-Luv, jSaY
Jug Honeyluv is the first female rapper/singer (as a member of a group, not solo) who came out with an album in the Philippines. She was a member of a Hip-hop/R&B group called, 4 East Flava. There were other female solo mc's before her, though. However, during the outbreak of Filipino Hip-hop groups in the early 90s, she was the only active female MC at the time. Her experiences as an artist started long before then. Becoming the only "lady rapper" at that time was something that came as a surprise to her. While vacationing in her native country, a group mate approached her to be part of the Hip-hop group. Before that, she was offered to be part of an all-girl R&B/Hip-hop group, just like TLC. It was the start of a dream come true for Jug. Since the age of 3, Jug, as what her family and friends call her, has been singing and performing in front of people. She's always dreamed of becoming a singer and a successful musician someday. That was indicated in her high school yearbook. Growing up as a teenager in NY has influenced her in a lot of ways, including the preference of listening and appreciating R&B/Hip-hop music. Since that time, not to mention her other interests such as musical theater, she has always been working towards her goal: to become just like the artists who she listens to! Not in the manner of style or "copying" the artist, but in the artists' achievement of evolving into a success story: fulfilling his/her dream to be a singer, artist, rapper or musician. So goes history for Jug. Being given the chance to be a Rap/R&B/Pop recording artist in her native land boosted her confidence and, furthermore, encouraged her to go for what she's always wanted. As an artist in the Philippine's Jug has had the privilege of performing along side the country's top recording artists and respected musicians, such as Kulay, Lloyd Umali, Introvoyz, Ima Castro, Jude Michael, Rivermaya, After Image, Asin, Reggae Mistress, Slapshock, fellow hip-hop artists, Mastaplann, Death Threat, Legit Misfitz, 7 Shots of Wisdom, SVC, P.k.S.O. and many many more throughout the years to follow. She's had the chance to meet very influential people in the Music industry due to her talent and undying effort to succeed. These meetings and affiliations with them have given her the experience and knowledge which are necessary to go up a step further towards her goal. Credits include two full-length albums as a member of 4 East Flava: TOO MUCH FLAVA released in 1994 (Polycosmic Records) and the latest one, BUTTA-FLAVA 1, released independently (Full House Records and Butta-Flava Entertainment). In addition, she has appeared with her group in a commercial for shoes, which they endorsed. In related matters, she is also a vocal coach who teaches at her own center and also offers her services to different schools as extra-curricular activities. From 2001 to 2005, Jug was busy as 1/2 of the female R&B/Hip-Hop/Pop duo, BUTTA-FLAVA. Due to the duo's skills, they were chosen to be one of the opening acts for the Black Eyed Peas concert in Manila held in 2004. She also founded Butta-Flava Entertainment (BFE) and Pinay Buttaz Productions and is still running it today doing live productions dedicated to the upliftment of Hip-Hop and R&B music in the Philippines.
