Judge Jules was born in North London on 26th October 1965. Judge was a law student at LSE and began a long time association with Norman Jay. Judge and Norman promoted Shake n Fingerpop and Family Funktion together. This established them as a central figure of those Rare Groove days. They broke into abandoned warehouses to stage \"warehouse parties.\" Norman was the person who gave the title JUDGE to JULES. It was Normans fixed thought that here was a student he\\\'d met doing a degree in law that could only turn out to be a judge. When the police turned up at their illegal gatherings, it was Jules who had to provide outrageous legal blags to put them off the trail.
Judge Jules sounded appropriate as his DJ name so the name stuck and his DJ career was born. Jules got into the House scene in 1986. He started travelling to New York to buy records and it was here he experienced the incredible atmosphere house music was producing. Although Jules was into the music before this, he had never experienced it in its full glory. As house turned to acid, he remained a prominent figure in the rave scene. Jules played at many of the legendary orbital raves. These including Energy; Back to the Future and Sunrise. Together with his long time friend Roy the Roach, Jules started his prolific remixing career with a mix for the then Virgin Records based Bas` Noirs \\\"I\'m Glad You Came\\\". Early remixes also included Soft House Company, Big Audio Dynamite and Fat Man.
In 1987 Jules had his debut on pirate radio station Kiss fm. In 1990 when the station went legal Jules rapidly became one of their top jocks. In 1991 he re-aquatinted himself with an old school friend ROLLO. They set up a studio together, and learnt how to produce and engineer, which before they bluffed their way through.
A studio was slowly recognized in the basement of Jules house. Jules struck up an extremely successful partnership with former Reggae drummer Michael Skins. Jules and Skins arrived on the scene with a shocking version of M PEOPLES Excited. Other outstanding remixes include T-Empos house classic \\\'Saturday night, Sunday morning\\\', Winks \\\'Higher State Of Consciousness\\\', Ruffnecks \\\'Everybody Be Somebody\\\', plus the big money spinners Doop and Reel 2 Real (I like to move it), on the Positiva label. In 1994 Jules was appointed A&R manager at Manifesto Records. That is a story in itself. It was voted the no. 1 dance label of 1996. It was possibly the fastest growing dance music label ever and maybe one of its greatest successes. With over 25 national top 40 successes to date, plus numerous critical accolades.
In 1995, Jules and his brother Sam formed SERIOUS ARTIST MANAGEMENT, who manages JUDGE JULES exclusively. Other DJs managed by SERIOUS ARTIST MANAGEMENT include Sonique, Norman Jay, Graham Gold and John Kelly. In September of 1997 Jules signed for Radio 1 which transmit to most of the UK and had two top rated shows on a Friday and Saturday. The Saturday show still going as strong as ever today (to see when this show is on go to www.bbc.co.uk/radio1. From here you can also listen to previous shows and him live if you are outside the UK). He has also made numerous television appearances including the Big Breakfast and the South Bank Show. At one time Jules presented \'Judge and the Jury\' on Kiss TV. This appears on Satellite in the Men & Motors Section.
Along with Jules’ numerous other tributes, combined with his huge popularity as a DJ worldwide. It shouldn\'t be too difficult to see and hear him at a club near you. You can find him every four to eight weeks at Gatecrasher, Sheffield; Up Yer Ronson, Leeds; Republica; Miss Moneypenny\'s Birmingham; The Gallery; Ministry Of Sound; The Cross, London; Golden, Manchester; Lakota, Bristol; Hippo Club; Cardiff; Deja Vu, Hull; Progress, Derby; Empire, Middlesbrough plus numerous others less regular appearances all over the UK. Annually, he visits: Australia/New Zealand; South Africa; Hong Kong; plus most other countries in Europe.
