What do you get when you put a drummer with heavy metal roots, a guitarist with classic rock roots, a bassist crazy about Jazz and a very drunkin vocalist, in 1 band?
Junkyard groove is Ameeth on vocals / Rhythm, Craig on Bass, Jeremiah on the skins and Axeman Siddharth.
Ever since its conception in the summer of 2005, Junkyard Groove was nothing but your silly sense of humor trying to be creative. It was Easter, and Ameeth and Siddharth wanted to form a band! So they made a few calls and roped in Jeremiah and Craig to fulfill drums and bass duties respectively. First day of practice happened, and that seemed to be an event by itself trying to get everybody to fall into the same groove and momentum. Once Junkyard Groove was rolling there was really nothing anybody wanted to do in terms of changing direction or slowing down the pace of things. It was like this warm feeling that dawned over you and you said to yourself, “This is It”. It all seemed to fit like a glove, or should I say “feels like a knife” after the first few jams. Ameeth a talented songwriter had a few basic song structures, rather good ones at that, brought it all in and every body in the band pitched in to what people have come to know, a product of the bands mind blowing funk, rock and jazz roots.
The songwriting process is as simple as it gets with this band, as it’s all based on what you feel at that precise moment. Moving on, the band saw it’s first few gigs, nothing spectacular but sure did show promise. Each time taking a step back, asking a million questions and successfully making things sweeter. The competition held at le royal meridian Chennai saw the band land up in second place, bagging the best guitarist award and probably the best “verbally outrageous” band award, if ever one existed. From there on the band saw success at “Jipmer” winning best band/vocalist/guitarist/drummer/own composition and second best bassist and rhythm. Never really left much for anyone else. Next stop was one of the bands most memorable gigs, NLS f**king NLS! An extremely excellent experience, with loads of love and respect to all the people who made it feel like home. NLS saw the band walking away a lot richer than 2 days earlier and oh yeah… best band, best vocalist and best guitarist. Madras Christian College came next and that saw very similar results with best band and best drummer. The band decided to give IIM Bangalore a shot and came in second and also best bassist. But the main highlight of the evening was, that from the previous show in Bangalore (NLS’ Strawberry Fields) the band grew a small fan base which resulted in the audience randomly requesting for their songs. Next up, home town competition IIT Chennai was great fun. The band made it through to the finals and walked away with best guitarist and a fancy little guitar as a prize. In between all these crazy competitions the band also played regular shows in and around the city.
The band decides to come out with their first EP which would feature 4 of their songs.
Now a year has passed them by and Junkyard Groove’s heart felt struggle to be heard, could never be more passionate.
