| In April 2005, the Moroccan ra_- singer and composer KADERO presented his debut album perdu at the sold out location “Porgy & Bess” in Vienna, Austria. His 12 compositions - a hot mix of world- and pop music - impressed media and audience likewise. KADERO’s inexhaustible creativity achieves to unfold the entire magic of ra_ and develops it into an electrifying mix of afro, jazz and European pop. The young Austrian independent record label Atlas Music pro produced the album and succeeded to win 18 top-class musicians from Morocco, Mauritius, Turkey and mainly Austria for this production; among them, well-known artists such as world class bass player Linley Marthe (Joe Zawinul Syndicate), accordion virtuoso Otto Lechner and the great guitarist Karl Ritter.
Rai originates from the folk music of the Northern border region of Morocco and Algeria. The rhythmic poems accompanied by a flute and a tabour became increasingly popular. In the 1970ies rai musicians enhanced their music with new instruments such as keyboard, bass, drums, guitar, trumpet and accordion. Well-known rai artists are Khaled (greatest hit Aicha), Cheb Mami and Cheb Hasni from Algeria.
Born in 1972 in the Moroccan city of Oujda, close to the Algerian border, KADERO grew up in the centre of rai. Already at a very young age he impressed his audience with his unique voice and even rai stars such as Khaled acknowledged his great talent. When KADERO formed his first band in Austria more than three years ago, the music of rai was hardly known. Meanwhile the artist’s stirring rai-pop and his hypnotising voice are an integral part of Vienna’s music scene.
KADERO’s debut album has succeeded to enter the German and Swiss music market. “Perdu” was nominated for the “Price of the German Record Critics” and elected as the “CD of the month” on the national Swiss radio station DRS. KADERO’s danceable songs are not only “on air” at several German radio stations but also across Europe from Madrid to Moscow. |
