Kaitlyn’s dreams began on a stage in Texas, where as a natural performer, she took over the show as she shuffled across the dusty floorboards in her tailored Statue of Liberty costume. Her blonde hair shone in the spotlights, while her piercing blue eyes and tremendous passion stole the hearts of the crowd. Little did the audience know that they were watching three-year-old Kaitlyn Anderson, a girl destined to rise to fame as “America’s Pop Rock Sweetheart.”
As a child, she was inspired by the powerful vocals of Bette Midler, the moving lyrics of Amy Grant, and the catchy tunes of The Beach Boys. Kaitlyn’s enthusiasm with the arts overtook her life. She immersed herself in anything and everything that had to do with music, art or theatre. At ten years of age, Kaitlyn began taking piano and vocal lessons. Soon after, she starred in her first musical, “Bye Bye Birdie.”
Later in her teen years, Kaitlyn continued to pursue her love for music and theatre. She attended Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Arizona, however when her father got a new job, her family moved to Huntington Beach, California. Her junior year of high school she attended the magnet program at The Academy for the Performing Arts in Huntington Beach. After graduating, Kaitlyn briefly attended the University of Arizona. She later transferred to the University of Southern California, where she minored in dance and majored in theatre. In order to take her talent to another level, she also started voice lessons with a Seth Riggs Speech Level Singing Certified instructor.
Now, Kaitlyn has perfected her sound on her debut EP (out May 9, 2008) “A New Word for Over” as rock blended with a kiss of pop. She notes that her musical influences came from the sounds of Paramore, The Foo Fighters, Carrie Underwood, and Mandy Moore.
As a passionate, romantic, and positive person, Kaitlyn says her lyrics are emotional-- a direct result of her wearing her heart on her sleeve. Many of her lyrics have come from her past tumultuous relationships, and the journey through making difficult life decisions when following your dreams. Kaitlyn describes how she molds her emotions into a song, “I take an idea, like pressure and think of the ways I feel pressure in life. Running out of time for me was a big one. So, I drew a clock and an hourglass symbolizing time... that turned into grains of sand and ticking clocks like I was on the clock and running out of time.” Immersed in emotion she describes, “I don't know how the lines come to me, they just do. All of a sudden, after notes and drawings... I get the lyrics.”
As a woman who is designing her fate and planning on making big waves in the music industry, Kaitlyn Anderson is truly is on her way to becoming “America’s next pop rock sweetheart.” Kaitlyn’s single “Unhappy” is now impacting radio and her EP “A New Word for Over” is available at iTunes, CD Baby and select Best Buy stores.
