Music was a family trait so I was encouraged to pick up a guitar, songwriting a natural progression..I was recording my own songs while still at school and progressed to work as a full time musician and Uni student. I didn't get much sleep that year..nothing seems to have changed!
I dropped Uni and went to Sydney to play, Brisbane was pretty quiet in those days, and worked in the inner city clubs/comedy houses for a couple of years.I moved back to Bris to continue in familiar recording territory.
Becoming an engineer to achieve greater control over my work was a welcome advance and now I enjoy collaboration with many gifted producers and musicians. The KGB (Kate Gibson Band)current lineup was brought about by Keys/Jazz player Ross Nixon who recruited awesome drummer John Barnes who recruited 'joined at the hip'partner in groove, bassist Peter (Willy) Willersdorf and Guitarist Neil Taylor who fitted right in. Saxophonist Ric halstead, known well in Jazz circles, recruited sought after and extremely wonderful keyboardist Ritchie Eyles, as Ross jetsetted off to a Japanese Jazz club. My close pals and regular songwriting and recording partners,Tony Byrne (Blues Guitarist and leader of 'The mercuries' and Producer @Blue_Zen Studios) and Ian Harvey (Electric Bedland Studios & Pleasure Kings Gtr/voc)are often guests in our lineup. My teenage daughters, Jesika (19) and maddie(15), (their brother is a Skaterdude(17)) are singing back up vocals with us for the Caloundra Music Festival, so that's a GOOD thing!! We have been playing with this lineup for over a year now and its a cool thing to have a band that knows my songs so well..we really have a lot of fun. With the CD finished, now we are making video's...p.s! I submitted a DVD to Australian Idol, filmed in Tony's studio...seeing as how I'm already officially a Rockermom in the U.S.A... |
