| KatRose is an exciting talent who has emerged onto the Texas music scene with an impact evoked by her voice, music and songwriting. KatRose is no newcomer to music as she brings with her a wealth of musical experience in various bands and directing church choirs for over twenty years. During that time, she has written and performed her own material and arranged many traditional hymns.
KatRose is warm, openhearted and honest with a sound that lies somewhere between acoustic folk, rock, soul and gospel. Her performances convey her passion for life and her love of live music. The great female singer/songwriters such as Emily Saliers, Amy Ray, Caroline Aiken, Terri Hendrix and countless others have strongly influenced KatRose not only in music, but also in her philosophies of life itself and the world around her. KatRose has honed her skills around the campfires at Kerrville, performances and jams around the country.
As a prolific songwriter, KatRose paints sequences of vivid and passionate stories. From personal tales, growing up in a south Texas border town, powerful and sometimes disturbing lyrics on social issues or pure emotion on her journeys into romance and passion, KatRose absorbs the listener as she creates her canvas of musical images. Her debut C.D. Power & Passion was recorded by Saylor White and Chris Collins at their Houston A Songwriter's Studio. When asked about her recent recording experience, Kat's eyes glint stating, "this has been a magical journey in the studio adding a whole new dimension to my music." The Power and Passion C.D. was launched in Spring 2005 at J.P. Hops House in Houston to a packed audience. The C.D. is available on-line through outboundmusic.com and mytexasmusic.com or come on down to one of Kat's gigs and buy it in person.
One of ten, KatRose was born in the South Texas border town of Brownsville, (hometown of Kris Kristofferson as she will tell anyone who will listen!). Even from an early age KatRose always had a zeal for music, "I can't remember a time that music was not in my life somewhere." KatRose returned one day from a trip across the border to Matamoros with a ten-dollar guitar and a fifteen-year-old's determination to learn to play. It wasn't long before KatRose was performing for friends and family and the ten-dollar guitar was replaced with the twelve-string Terada guitar that KatRose still uses today in her live performances.
KatRose moved from the Rio Grande Valley of Texas to Houston to finish her college degree. She went on to finish her masters and became a doctoral student at University of Houston before going on to complete her Microsoft certifications.
KatRose enjoys time at home with her sons and her mischievous miniature Doberman pinscher, aptly named Rascal Rose. "As long as it is Texas, I am home!" she says. The KatRose house has an "open door" policy where friends and musicians are welcome at anytime to just chill out and jam. Out-of-town touring musicians who need a place to stay frequently use the adjoining fully equipped private apartment. Kat says, "It is my little way to support the music community."
