In 1997, Tom Chaplin (vocals), Richard Hughes (drums) and Tim Rice Oxley (piano) were each attending college in England and formed a band, initially with guitarist Dom Scott. After Scott's departure, Keane stayed with the formula of vocals, drums and piano, and their music has been described as
passionate, beguilingly beautiful, and searching, as well as exuberant and reflective.
Tom's vocals are extraordinary, and capture the mood of each song perfectly.
Likened by some to bands such as Coldplay and Travis, Keane manage to create a powerful and yet sensitive brand of music, with a refreshing and remarkable quality.
Their single 'Somewhere Only We Know' and album 'Hopes and Fears' should be a part of any good music lover's collection!
