Kenny G (born Kenny Gorelick) was born on June 5th, 1956 in Seattle to a Jewish family. He changed his name to Kenny G when he was 17 and then he started playing in Barry White\'s Love Unlimited Orchestra. Kenny G\'s sound and style was influenced by Grover Washington Jr. Later he earned a degree in accounting at the University of Washington.
In 1981, Kenny G signed with Arista Records, and in 1981, he released his first album, Kenny G. Kenny G has released many albums and has played with various artists such as Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and others. His albums are usually labled as smooth jazz and many saxophonists dislike Kenny for that reason.
Kenny G\'s music is very popular with the public, and in 2003, he was 25th highest selling artist in America. He sold 47.5 million albums that year,Kenny G also has a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for holding E Flat for 45 seconds and 47 seconds. He still holds the records, but other saxophonists have claimed they have held the note for longer, but no Guinness Book of Records judges were present. |
