Recently Keyz was out west filming a music video for the track August 8th, 1979. That can be viewed soon on television music station Much Music.
The track August 8th, 1979 originally featured samples from Kansas’ Dust In The Wind. However due to rights of the song the original release date for the album was delayed. Keyz realized using other artist samples removed the notion of having complete creative control over his music. The samples were dropped and Keyz acquired guitar playing of the Latin funk star Maurice Moreno, and vocals from David Creed of the metal band Grand Marais. Making August 8th, 1979 a song proving that 3 styles of musical influence can create a masterpiece.
"now that's a track!" Whitey Kirst of Iggy Pop
Keyz musicianship is constantly growing in his fully equipped hip-hop studio, with drum machines, keyboards etc He does produce all of his songs from start to end. Like any brilliant producer realizes there are strengths and weaknesses in all songs. For influence and help he acquires a strict group of musicians that he works well with. Frank Johnstone (aka Uncle Frank) who is an incredible musician. Providing drums, guitar, bass, keyboards etc.
Keyz first got his rap career started in 1998 with a Westside Detroit label studio just off school craft, with other artists such as Supreme of Dirty Politics and Bugz of D12. It was here where Keyz released his first 4-song maxi single cassette called Skinny Boy Lunatic. Which sold 500 copies around Detroit. While perfecting his skills behind the boards he would take into his own hands the production of his next album The Life & Times of Rienhold Polowski. 1000 units of this lp was sold around Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and Ontario.
