KingBaby began as the brainchild of musician Lance Bulen in early 2004.
Coming from a background of musical styles ranging from blues to hard rock, Lance yearned for a project that could incorporate his New Orleans roots into his work. "Following your musical influences actually can be fulfilling," Lance said in a recent commentary. Even though he's played and written a lot of different kinds of music in the past, Lance wanted to do something that was "more heartfelt musician oriented rock." Thus, KingBaby was conceived.
He teamed up with producer Robert Tepper and spent 8 weeks writing music. They then recorded a 3-song demo with drummer Alex Irwin, who had met Lance at a Hollywood rehearsal studio. "When I heard the demo after it was all put together, I loved it," Alex says. "I had complete faith in the music." The demo quickly garnered such positive feedback that they decided to master it and release it as their first EP that has since found its way into the hands of thousands of listeners. Bassist Allan Hearn, a seasoned live performer and graduate of B.I.T. later joined the mix.
KingBaby began playing live shows in the summer of 2004. The response was overwhelming. Bulen's clear, deep vocals over the bluesy, southern-edged rock had audiences hooked and craving more. "It just works. We write for ourselves, but it happens to be coming out radio-friendly," he explains.
Their songs have indeed been played on various radio programs, and in the summer of 2005, under the indie record label Bibs Records,LLC they recorded and released their first full-length album, “Whole Lotta’ Easy.” The track "The Right Time" has advanced to the third round in the ISC (International Songwriting Competition) based in Nashville. KingBaby's music is southern rock for the soul...original, intense, tight and explosive and the live shows reflect that. They are currently playing at well-known venues across the country on an ongoing basis.
