It started one day in gymnastics class. Mercedes Lander, still in high school, met Fallon Bowman incidentally. Both were into the same music: Nirvana, Silverchair, Pink Floyd, etc. and wanted to be in a rock band. They began to play Nirvana songs in a garage, when eventually they teamed up with Mercedes' sister Morgan, who had a gifted and talented voice. By the time they found bassist Talena, Kittie had been set in stone. They became a hit at their high school, in which at the time, pop acts like Britney Spears were getting big. The members of Kittie strayed from the pop crowd, they knew they were all for the heavy metal. By January of 2000, their debut album Spit was released from their Canadian label, Ng Records. The songs involved hate, betrayal, rape, suicide, and other gritty themes the girls had encountered at some point in their lives. The following summer, Kittie was put on the 2nd stage at Ozzfest, along with bands such as Soulfly and Taproot. Proving to be one of the most popular bands there, their song "Suck" was put onto the Ozzfest live compilation album. By 2001, Kittie was set to work on their next album. Then shadows began to fall on the band: they stopped speaking to each other for a short time, due to an argument. No one knew what was to come for the band. By August 2001, Fallon Bowman spoke up and decided to leave the band, in pursuit of a solo career, along the lines of a Rage Against The Machine-ish project. A few months later, November 2001, Kittie released their second album, Oracle with the help of GGGarth Richardson (Mudvayne, Chevelle). This album was set to be more mature, with Morgan's new riffs, visual lyrics, and entrancing melodies. Their first single from the new album, "What I Always Wanted", debuted on MTV, and metal fans bought the record. Kittie thought that they had overcome some of their greatest obstacles, though they were wrong. By early 2002, bassist Talena Atfield became the second member to walk away, in hopes of something new. There weren't any members to cover for her this time around. So, instead of giving up, Morgan and Mercedes began to search for a new bass player, where they found ex-Spine's Jennifer Arroyo. Jennifer was already a fan of Kittie, and learning the parts wasn't that hard for her. Around the time, "Run Like Hell" and "Pain" began to air on radio stations, and live music videos were shot. In May came the mellow, harmonic "In Winter", which became popular on rock radio shows such as hardDrive w/Lou Brutus. The summer came, and Kittie came back to Ozzfest for their second time, playing a few shows here and there, getting prepared for their EP release. By November, Kittie was done with the Safe EP, and it was released, featuring a KMFDM remix of "Safe"; a radio edit of "Safe"; live recordings of "No Name", "Severed", "What I Always Wanted", "In Winter", and "Pain"; and live footage of "Wolves", "Charlotte", and "Mouthful of Poison". It is now February 2003, and Morgan, Mercedes, and Jennifer are working on material for their upcoming release. A release date is yet to be scheduled, but it's worth the wait.

Oracle (2001)
1. Oracle
A glance over your own shoulder
A vow that today will stand out Caged in a routine
Intent unknown
The element Of surprise
Impact undetermined but vast
Mark me...
Brandishing a cold loaded smile Simplicity,
subtlety, discordance fate and allegory
Everything has it's purpose and you will suffer for what you've done

2. Mouthful Of Poison
Blood spilled
Heart-felt
Head filled
Play dead...
Consider yourself now, my friend Enemy number one
You are bound and gagged, sacred circle broken trust
Now the plague has been cast in your town, acid tongue venom word
Why bother to lie?
Leave the lamp behind.
Your mouth full of (lead and lies)
Don't walk in to fire
You might find that you'll get burned
What a find dirty face
Guilt at last, is this a lesson that's learned?
Can you hear your own blood in your veins, calling out your demise?
Silence a word to the wise...
Your mouth full of (lead and lies)
I can't hear you scream
Drowning so it seems your mouth is full of poison... | riff_master |
3. In Winter
You fell to the ground like rain
On deaf ears your cries met hands And knees were blistered
Shouting from the tallest tree
You declared wrong
But they never listen
There's safety in numbers
This cold-hearted world!
The Coldest Winter...
You don't see me like I know you
Hiding behind glass
So sickened by grief
You can't let them win
They'll have you
Playing life makes death so good
This cold-hearted world!
The Coldest Winter...
You don't know, And you never will! | riff_master |
4. Severed
Look at you now
Eyes wide open
Truth begged to be told
I walk around in circles to revisit Where I've always been
You spoke of where your heart was
I thought
I knew you well
Ties that bind you have been severed
Look at you now
Eyes wide open
Truth begged to be told
I want to make you feel this
Trusting arms let me fall once again
I stood close to an enemy and Closer to a friend
Ties that bind you have been severed.
Look at you now
Eyes wide open
Truth begged to be told | riff_master |
5. Run Like Hell
Run run run run run run run run Run, YEAH!
You better make your face up in Your favourite disguise
With your button down lips and your Roller blind eyes
With your empty smile
And your hungry heart
Feel the bile rising from your guilty past
With your nerves in tatters when the cockleshell shatters
And the hammers batter down the door
You'd better run!
Run run run run run run run run
Run, YEAH!
You better run all day and run all night
And keep your dirty feelings deep inside
And if you're taking your Girlfriend out tonight
You'd better park the car well out of sight
Cause if they catch you in the back seat trying to pick her locks
They're gonna send you back to mother in a cardboard box
You better run!
Run run run run run run run run
Run, YEAH! | riff_master |
6. Pain
I feel your pain
Almost lost it all
You are all the same
The wounded bleed to death
Tarnish my name
You deserve nothing at all...
You knew that life was a game...
You deserve nothing at all...
You must endure your own PAIN!
Life in the dark without a light
Hollow empty
Let's get it right
You deserve nothing at all...
You knew that life was a game...
You deserve nothing at all...
Red dress serpent...
Just stop it..
Just stop it...
Red dress serpent and you'll stay here!
You deserve nothing at all...
You knew that life was a game...
You deserve nothing at all...
YOU MUST ENDURE YOUR OWN PAIN! | riff_master |
7. Wolves
It crawls along the floor subdued
Nothing amounts to
Nothing realizing
Nothing afraid of
Nothing act upon
Nothing stopping at
Nothing consider
Nothing consequence
Nothing
Comes Back
Like Wolves!
Hydra dead times six cowering
Nothing amounts to
Nothing realizing
Nothing afraid of
Nothing act upon
Nothing stopping at
Nothing consider
Nothing consequence
Nothing
Comes Back
Like Wolves!
If I could, I would have begged you | riff_master |
8. What I Always Wanted
Opened up it's revealed
Savour this
Dont get lost in a lie
Hit or miss
Beside, my self, with doubt
push on what's to come must be proved
Focus bliss
Charcoal stares
One foot at a time
Smear those lies
I thought I found (once i fought)
What I always wanted
Bear with me (bear with me)
I thought I found (once i fought)
What I always wanted
Bear with me (bear with me)
Certainty
Not at hand
I can't keep my eyes shut
Chose not to listen
I thought I found (once i fought)
What I always wanted
Bear with me (bear with me)
I thought I found (once i fought)
What I always wanted
Bear with me (bear with me)
I got what I wanted
I got just what I always wanted
I got what I wanted
I got just what I always wanted
Once
I
Fought | riff_master | 9. Safe
In the darkness
Troubled water
Lies a flicker
Of hopes fire
Come to your senses
Wager a risk
I won't let go
Waiting for this
It's wonderful
Reality
I watch as
This golden bird flies free
Down
Never
When this breath, is done
And know me I can't
See
For what happend to be
And the end...
In this ash-vault
A rose garden
These walls will never
See me just to
Save me
Save me | riff_master |
10. No Name
Indeed I will condescend
Exhausting every trace to give you,
What you asked for
Everything you demanded you bleed right from me
At last, I will be free
And the phoenix rises
Invasion of my last hope
For once just know your place
We are only human
Everything you demanded you bleed right from me
So weak you cannot see
Corruption at its finest | riff_master |
11. Pink Lemonade
Trusted you
With my life
Shattered dreams
Broken glass
I hope there is closure
Down your path
For I have yet to find
The means to forgive
So what if you were all I had?
Is it over?
Wasting away
And forget to see
Go choose your way
Leaving everything
You walked away
Did it make it easier on you?
So what now?
Life must go on still haunted
You know how hard it is to face this day
I hope it is good for you
I tried, oh how I tried, but it's broken
Let me go, I could have died | riff_master | | | |
