~Lauryn Hill~
Lauryn Hill was born May 25th, 1975 in South Orange, New Jersey to a English teacher and a Computer Consaultant. She had a passion for music at a early age. Her parents would rock her to sleep with the sounds of R&B. Her parents placed strong emphasis on the importance of an education, but Lauryn still found time to fit music into her scheduele. When she 13, she sang “Who’s loving you” by Smokie Robinson on Showtime at the Apollo. She was highly involved in academics, poetry, singing, cheerleading, playing basketball and running track. She was voted homecoming queen at her high school, also. She started a acting career while still in high school. She landed a role in “As the world turns”. Her next role was on Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit with Whoopi Goldberg. Her singing career was taking shape when she formed a rap group called the Fugees with longtime friends Wyclef Jean and Prakazrel (Pras) Michael. Their debut album had a slow start, but with Hill’s talent on stage they gained popularity. There second album, The Score, was a big sucess, it allowed Hill’s voice to be reognized. Songs such as Robert Flack’s “Killing Me Softly” and Bob Marley’s “No Woman No Cry” showed the diverse talents of the trio. In 1997, Hill became pregnant with her first child. Despite criticisms and warnings of stoping her career, Hill had a healthy baby boy. The father was Bob Marley’s son Rohan, the boy was named Zion David Marley. She kept out of the spot light and consentrated on raising her son and her orginization, the Refugee Project, assisting underprivilaged youth. On August 25th, 1998 she relesed her first solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. It was based on her life and experiences, the album was seen as a breakthrough that would help artists put more meaning and depth into their work. Wyclef and Pras began solo careers of there own, too. On November 12h, 1998, her second child was born, a girl Selah Louise Marley. At the 1998 Grammy’s, Hill broke a record, she was the first woman to receive 5 awards. There is a Fugees reunion planned in the future, also she is to star in a movie as Bob Marley’s wife, and is expected to marry Rohan, in the future, also.
