After wastinjg his late teens in a masochistic and semi-infamous hardcore band, singer/songwriter Sean Hoen allegedly drifted into seclusion and alcoholism before returning as Leaving Rouge. Of course, his hardcore audience hated it and, of course, it is an amazing progression. LR has the sentimental and emotional power that few can properly express, thanks mostly the Hoen's strong and naked lyricism. This is imbedded in atmospheres of swirling guitars that call to mind the Cure or even Ride or MBV. LR, however, also has a distinct Midwestern singer/songwriter component, which makes for an interesting blend of concepts. Imagine Wilco's most personal moments dropped into a wall of dripping guitars and you'd be close. This band could prove to be a big hitter. Time will tell.
