| In Spring of 2001, Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Aisha Cohen met local, like-minded guitarist Aaron Magram. Introduced by a good friend from college, the two formed an instant bond over a body of work that was yet to be formed. Over a period of 2 years and after much toil, frustration and hazy nights, the pieces started coming together. During this time, they played, pretty much everywhere around New York City- small clubs and cafes (as the Aisha Cohen Band), having picked up bassist Tara Thierry (Toni Blackman, Strange Fruit, Alien Canopy) and drummer Claudio Rochat-Felix (Jonny Lives, The Rochat-Felix Quintet), among other one-off sit-ins. The usual revolving door ensued with the core Cohen and Magram, in tact, Thierry and Rochat-Felix working on other projects and keyboardist Bob Byrne, Sharp Things’ drummer Steve Gonzalez and bassist Richard Holst entering. Gonzalez would appear on Like So’s debut long player, as would Holst and Byrne, but would soon after also be replaced by drummer/producer/multi-instrumentalist Billy Gunnz.
In it's existence, Like So has earned the reputation as a fierce ensemble having performed extensively throughout their hometown. With their self-titled debut, Like So is poised to bring their brand of heavy soul to as many people as will listen. Songs such as “Down” with it’s memorable melody and driving rhythm and “Move On” with lyrics that speak to universal emotions and experiences, is just a taste of what’s to come from this promising group. One thing is certain, the music of Like So is sure to leave an impact on audiences and leave them wanting more long after the band has left the stage.
The group's self titled mini LP, which was engineered and mixed by Joel Hamilton (JJ Paradise Players Club) and Tony Maimone (Pere Ubu) at Studio G Brooklyn, will be released in June 2005 on Systren Recordings.
