Ken had a band. The band broke up. A biker rally gig still needed playing. Ken didn’t want to upset
bikers. The gig was still months away. Ken asked his wife, Mindy (who could sing and worked as a
machinist), if she would try to learn the bass guitar and help him do the gig, thus saving him from potential
biker wrath. She agreed. Livingroom Legends was born.
Mindy got better on the bass. She practiced with Ken in their living room. Ken would start and stop drum
beats on a little keyboard with a foot switch. Ken got much better on the harmonica. The Livingroom
Legends released their first cd, Honeymoon, in March 2002, less than a year after Ken approached Mindy
about playing the bass.
People told the Livingroom Legends that their music reminded them of all sorts of people/bands: the Byrds,
the Beatles, old REM, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Johnny Cash, Neil Young, Yo La Tengo, Gram
Parsons, Woody Guthrie, Fleetwood Mac, and more.
The Livingroom Legends have now played over 120 shows, been on radio and TV a bunch, sold over 300
cds, had numerous articles written about them, won a couple of awards, made a lot of new friends, and still
find time to raise their three kids.
