Once dubbed the “Queen of Ska,” leader of the legendary (defunct) band “The Kingpins”, Lorraine, brings us something new and exciting! In less than a year, her new band “Lo and the Magnetics”, has already completed a successful 5-week European Tour, and released their debut CD “A Part” (produced and co-written with Toronto’s Mitch Gírio of King Apparatus fame) to rave reviews both in North America and Europe. Let yourself be enveloped by an exceptional voice, outstanding musicians and truly original, catchy songs. Explore a new sound that is bursting out of its subcategory. Lo and the Magnetics’ CD “A Part” on “Top 5 Records” is truly a one-of-a-kind incorporating Joe Jackson / Elvis Costello production values, vocal textures reminiscent of Blondie, Chrissy Hinde, Gwen Stefani and even Aimee Mann, a string-quartet, bass clarinet, and the band members’ musical influences ranging from The Police, to The Slits, Kraftwerk, Radiohead, and The Beatles to name just a few. Audiophile candy: this is one of the very few recordings nowadays not to use any auto-tuning on the vocals!
The lyrics are very introspective and mostly taken from Lo’s experiences.
The band recently made its debut appearance at the highly touted “Pop Montreal 2005” festival, only a week after flooring a New York City audience at The Knitting Factory.
October 2005 sees the release of the album’s remastered version. Embracing change and pushing to evolve their unique style, their intense and infectious songs will surprise any fan of good music.
