There was never a time in my life when I wasn’t surrounded by music. My family is very musical and we’ve always had bands of one sort or another. At a very early age, I became a KISS fan and shortly thereafter began spending more time with the guitar. I locked myself away and began imitating the playing of Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads, Joe Satriani, and Steve Vai. Randy Rhoads, Darrell Abbot, and Steve Vai remain at the top of my influence list today.
In the 80’s I went through the typical teenager motions. Several bands, playing anywhere, anytime, but not quite anything...I stuck to rock. I have also played Jazz, Blues, and Country
professionally but nothing held my attention as well as rock.
In the late 80s, I did some touring with various groups, mostly as a fill-in or studio guitarist. 1990 rolled around and I decided to do a couple of tours with Uncle Sam and get an education. During that time, I was never really able to put the guitar down. However, Military lifestyle is not terribly conducive to a music career, so I decided to immerse myself in music theory and the work of guitarists I respected; too numerous to list. After my service stint was over, I came back to Buffalo and set the wheels in motion to get back into music, at least on a local level. What I found interesting was that there were very few “soloist” types floating around, as opposed to the heavier chord-oriented players that grew out of the mid-late 90s. While I enjoy their music as well, I saw this an opportunity to at least have some fun. My current band is doing well. So, through the prodding of many individuals to give this a shot, here we are!
