Mad Season began in 1994. The band consisted of Layne Staley from Alice In Chains, Mike McCready from Pearl Jam, and Screaming Trees Martin Barret, and "Baker". Layne was the Vocalist, Mike played guitar, Martin played drums, and "Baker" played bass. Mark Lanegan did some singing on the album as well. He also was from Screaming Trees. The tracks he appeared on was"I'm Above and "Long Gone Day" (co-writing lyrics on the later number). The Band got their start at Seattle's Crocodile Cafe, where they played, without a name, to audiences who were surprised to see members of Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, ans Screaming Trees on stage together. They were originally called the Gacy Bunch(paying simultaneous homage to John Wayne Gacy, The "Killer Clown" of Chicago, and a beloved sitcome from the 1970s), Mad Season released one album, called Above. It was a quick day recording session at Seattle's Bad Animals studio (co-owned buy Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart) resulted in the 11 songs on Above, co-produced by the band and Pearl Jam sound engineer Brett Eliason. The album was released in March 1995. Their music is a powerful blend of blues and heavy rock. Reportedly, songs were penned for another Mad Season album, which ultimatley went unrecorded. Mad Season then supposedly thought about replacing Staley with Lanegan (and changing their anme to Disinformation), but no songs were recorded-resulting in the musicians going their separate ways for good. Sadly, this proved to be the final word on Mad Season As both Saunders and Staley would eventually die from drug overdoses.
