Singing is what Margie Cumbie does. She shares her love for singing by singing anywhere, anytime and almost any place! She has been fortunate enough to record four CDs in the last few years.
Margie was discovered kind of by accident. She had gotten up and sang at a karaoke bar during a vacation to the beach. Her friends were very surprised that she had this hidden talent. Plus, Margie realized that she was not embarrassed – and she found joy in sharing her talent with others. She started singing at retirement homes and nursing homes as a volunteer. The residents enjoyed hearing her – and she felt she had been given the fulfilling gift of sharing her God-given talent with those special folks.
And then one day, someone discovered that Margie could sing in the special way Patsy Cline used to sing. This fellow was putting on a big benefit at the local Civic Center. He begged her to share her gifts for a good cause… plus she would get to sing on a big stage in the Concert Hall for about 30 minutes with 1,500 people in attendance. (by the way – she received two standing ovations during this performance)
Margie's recording career started just outside of Nashville at the legendary country singer, Razzy Bailey’s studio. Razzy was very kind to Margie. She was able to work with some very experienced musicians and they taught her quite a bit about recording.
Margie’s second CD was recorded at Razzy’s studio also. This album consisted of 90% Patsy Cline songs. She elected to do this project because every time she performed – audiences wanted to buy her “Patsy” songs – and Margie likes to make sure her audience gets what they want!
Margie’s third CD is titled “I Saw the Master This Morning”. She recorded this fine collection of country gospel songs at a friend’s studio in Calhoun Georgia.
Margie recorded her fourth CD at one of Nashville’s better studios plus used some of her favorite musicians. She was fortunate to have Mr. Harold Bradley play on this project. Mr. Bradley is Owen Bradley’s brother. (Harold Bradley will be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2006) The Bradleys were very important to helping many of Nashville’s great country artist’s record – including Margie’s idol, Miss Patsy Cline. “Margie Cumbie sings Country” captured the Nashville sound of the 1960’s especially when The Jordanaires joined her on two of the songs.
Margie has performed in many concerts, shows, fairs, and private events – and she still sings her fair share of Patsy songs!
Margie is married to Ben, and they have three grown-married sons and four of the prettiest grandkids ever born.
