Melissa Elliott a.k.a. Missy ' Misdemeanor ' Elliott has been at the top of the rap game for the past 6 years. She has proved herself to be a superb role-model and pioneer in the never-ending quest to make original rap and R&B music for the masses.
Born in 1971 in Portsmouth, Virginia, USA, Missy, as a child, often watched her mother being beaten by her father. Who felt it necessary to ' discipline ' his wife to ' keep her in order '. As the beatings went on, the young Melissa often retreated into herself, as many children in that scenario do, making her a very shy and closed off child, that struggled to make friends.
One friend she did make, however, was long-term friend and production assistant, Tim Mosely. Better known as Timbaland. As the two got older they made beats in Timbalands parents garage. Timbaland would be on the decks while Missy would rap along to it.
Occasionally, they would have mini concerts in the street which attracted many people. So many in fact that sometimes they drowned out Missy 's voice. Which posed major problems that were solved when the duo recruited a local boy called Magoo to add variation to the sound.
As the trio grew older, however, they all went on a sabbatical year to take a rest from music. It was then that Missy met some girls that would eventually, with Missy on board, form the girl R&B group called Sista.
The group won a record contract but failed to impress with their debut albulm and were promptly fired.
But whereas this might have dented the hopes of many people, Missy, along with Timbaland and Magoo managed to produce a handful of solo albulms under the name Missy Elliott. theey eventually broke into the mainstream in 2001 with Missy 's third effort : " Miss E: So Addictive " which produced smash hits such as " Get Ur Freak On " and " One Minute Man " with Ludacris.
2002 produced the best Missy albulm to date with " Under Construction ". Sensational success followed with blockbuster hits such as " Cop That Sh*t ". It was so good, Timbaland and Magoo (now an established duo in their own right) released " Under Construction Part 2 " made up of remixed beats and the added bonus of Timbaland, Magoo and Missy on all the tracks.
With the world finally awakened to the maverick known as Missy Elliott, people anticipated the arrival of 2003s " This Is Not A Test ". Although the critics werent as impressed as before, the streets loved it and the albulm has made it into the top of the charts in several countries.
At this moment in time, Missy is about to release her third single from " This Is Not A Test " entitled " Im Really Hot " and the finishing touches are being added to a, so far, untitled new albulm. Still only 33, Missy still has many years left to produce and serve the world with the same original old skool rap that the fans have enjoyed for years.
