Fernando itself has no literal meaning aside the fact that it is a man’s name. This sort of reference or non-reference is in itself not meaningless. Fernando is in all of us.
About four years ago Mark Lusk (Houseboat, Connor, and Princess) and Jonathan Zimmerman (Jelly Roll, Cosmic Johnson and Imaginary friend) rented out a rehearsal space in Decatur, Georgia that was falling apart due to consistent rain water and neglect.
This rustic base gave them time to write songs they were never able to write in other settings. After filtering through a few drummers Spinaltap style, Jonathan called his long time friend, Steve Hrach( The Pleasantdales). With Steve on board, they began writing more songs than they could learn.
Responsible for one of the more interesting releases of 2005, Fernando can be best described as guitar based rock music with familiar influences thrown in amidst strong harmonized choruses. Sometimes bluesy and soulful, sometimes slinky and methodical, sometimes quick, quirky and furious, Fernando has never ceased to explore the full spectrum of rock and roll possibilities.
