The Grocery Fool!

I was shopping one night
Got the urge for some food
Thought I couldn't be trapped
By a craving or mood.
To my chagrin, I was totally wrong
As you'll find out by the end
Of this Melancholy poem.
Let me tell you fine folks
How my epic began
I just needed some eggs
For a Quiche Lorraine
When I entered the store
I headed straight for the back
Didn;t want to get swayed
Or be swept off track
Bypassed the bargain bins
Wouldn't let myself roam
After I bought eggs
I would go right home
As I got near the deli
On my way to the dairy
I felt something strange
I felt something scary
A nagging old grind
In the pit of my gut
My rumbling tummy
Just wouldn't shut up
I took a small brie
And a French baguette
I'd been searching for eggs
Hadn't found them yet
All the pretty cakes
in the bakery looked great
With free samples to try
The eggs would have to wait
Stopped at the auto-teller
Thought it wouldn't hurt
If I took out some cash
To buy some dessert
My heavy basket
Was getting too small
So I switched to a cart
That I found by a stall
Near the frozen foods aisle
They had piled more treats
There were cherries, and berries
Peanuts, and sweets
There were drinks and
Chips and Salsas and malt
My cart was getting full
But it wasn't my fault
I was hungry and tired
Then I smelled coffee brewing
I saw bright comfy booths
And the music was soothing
I rested awhile in my shopping reverie
When I paid for my goods
I felt a burning in me
I'd forgot to buy the eggs!
Oh that was the trouble!
Two-hundred thirty dollars later
I'd spent more than double!
When I finally got home
I ate like a horse
My budget was blown
I had buyers remorse
There's a moral to this tale
As you knew there would be
Eat a full meal
Before you shop for groceries!
