Making his mark in the brooklyn underground Mos Def's talent soon got him onto major hip hop artist albums such as De La Soul. After he established the credibiliy of a talented up and coming rapper Mos Def burst onto the scene with his collaboration with fellow brooklyn native Talib Kweli and DJ Hi-Tek. They formed the group blackstar and in 1998 released the album "Blackstar". The Album earned much respect from the hip hop community with it's possitive lyrics and creative beats. One year later on October 12, 1999 Mos Def released his solo album "Black on Both Sides" They Album did vary well finacialy. One of the most memerable single from the album "Umi Says" is a look inside Mos Def's mind and ventures outside the usual hip hop reputation. Recently he has done acting work in film such as "Monsters Ball", "Showtime", and the "Italian Job".
