The Band
Based around the thriving music and art scene of Canterbury, Motion Picture Soundtrack are Alastair and Graeme Blackwood, Nick Watts and Will Hasler. Their beautiful melodies, histrionic sound and original approach has earned them the opportunity to record their debut album in Copenhagen with Paul Schroeder (The Stone Roses, The Verve) and Dan Austin (Doves, Massive Attack, Cooper Temple Clause)
The two lead tracks have just been mixed by Cenzo Townshend (Kaiser Chiefs, Snow Patrol, Bloc Party, Editors) and the record is in the final stages of mastering while the band is back in the rehearsal studio preparing for two exclusive shows, to be announced soon.
Motion Picture Soundtrack have worked with several well known producers, supported Kubb, Magne F (a-ha) and Apartment, headline in Berlin and open the Kent Music Festival on the main stage. They have played over 150 dates at venues, Universities and festivals all over the south east, and after months of writing and recording, are fired up and ready to get out again.
The Music
Whilst inspired by the creativity and diversity of Craig Armstrong, the soaring anthems of the Verve, the fragility of Thomas Newman, and the dark qualities of bands like Muse and Sigur Ros, Motion Picture Soundtrack are committed to their own sense of individuality. They continually build on strong, mature song-writing with each band member adding his own stamp and are constantly looking at innovative ways of enhancing their music and live performances: the end result is cohesive, intelligent and moving.
Seeing the band play live is an all-encompassing experience as their fervour and drive shine through the songs. The set, often including projected short films during the performance, is at times sensitive, and at times raw. It takes the listener on a journey through beautiful melodies and passionate lyrics to emerge positive and uplifted.
