Who is Mr Whooha? That question is asked most frequent. Whooha! Yell it out loud and MR is an acronym for message received.
In the Beginning
Grand Rapids, Michigan. Lisa K., singing karaoke in her favorite nightclubs, doing solo performances for weddings, funerals and graduations, agrees to sing lead vocals for Mr. Whooha band . She has been a natural performer since childhood. At age 10, she sang and played acoustic guitar to Tina Turner’s "Proud Mary" for her school concert. This set off her obsession with music and performing. Madonna, Cheryl Crow, Gwen Stefani and Alanis Morresette are her major influences. She plays keys and harmonica and admits to being a former disco queen.
Setting the Foundation
It wasn’t long before Lisa met up with Mark Kurek, guitar player, writer and composer, who was looking for a talented female vocalist to perform and record original music for his new project. Kurek is the lead guitarist and recording artist from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mark was reared on mid 1970s rock, fusion, jazz and funk and launched in the world somewhere between Al Daimio's "Midnight Sun" and Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven." Mark is a versatile rock-style guitarist. he has played in many diverse situations. He has crafted a unique style and sound with blistering solos.
Striking it Big
In 2000, Mark formed his band, MR Whooha. Jon Kurek on bass, and rhythm guitar from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Jon taught himself how to play guitar when he was 8 years old. As a teen, he began playing rhythm guitar and formed his own band, playing parties, clubs and get-togethers, finally, Jon joined up forces with his brother, Mark. Jon's influences are Jimi Hendrix, Beatles, Creed, and Led Zeppelin and his favorie color is black. Dan Primo came later, out of Saginaw this very talented drummer has played with great bands, including one that was of national level in Europe. He is a drum prodigy, and he plays all styles. He is a writer, composer and recording artist. He has played since childhood in jazz, symphonic and marching band and never quit banging on stuff since then.
"Addicted to music"
That is Marks most repeated phrase. Both Kurek and Kolenda started writing original songs for MR Whooha and the first song they wrote together was Pale Eyes, a song of support for a friend whose child had cancer and a close friend who was suffering from a brain tumor. Kurek and Kolenda have become the primary songwriters for Mr. Whooha they are currently is working on the first recording project . The band is full of energy and charisma.
