Mushroomhead is a band that formed in 1993 as a side-project of a few different local bands. Each member of mushroomhead was already in another band, and all of these bands practiced together in the same building. Eventually, the members of these bands became good freinds, and formed Mushroomhead. They had their first show, and originally fans didn't like the idea of the masks. They didn't wear masks because it was the "cool" thing to do, they did it because they realized that they didn't want fans to judge them based on their other bands that they were originally in. So, they all wore masks or face-paint of some sort. This eventually became their gimmick, but didn't rely on their onstage presance, to sell records. Instead, they relied on their sound, heavy guitars, keyboard riffs, Jeffory Nothing (Jeff Hatrix) as the high pitched vocals, and J-Mann (Jason Popson) as the low pitched vocals. They originally had a stripper named roxy, but she later left the band due to personal problems.
By 1995 the band had collected enough original material to release their first independant album, Mushroomhead, self titled. In 1997 they released their second release titled "Superbuick" and they also released an increadably rare Remix CD. By 1998 things had taken a bit of a turn, Road runner Records had contacted Mushroomhead, about a contract signing, but Mushroomhead declined. Within seven months, the band saw "Slipknot", which appered to be a carbon copy of Mushroomhead, which seems to be an arguement that continue's to this day amoung Mushroomhead fans.
1999 brought on Mushroomhead's third independant release, "M3". The sound was much heavier, borrowing riffs from a side-project band, "(216)". This year also brought about a new look For Mushroomhead. That year they introduced the "XX" look. To this day, they use a modified version of that look.
In May of 2000, The band made history as the first local band to headline Blossom Music Center, which is an ampitheater that holds nearly 20,000.
In May of 2001, Mushroomhead returned to Blossom Music center, to headline their second season opener in a row. They also released their first major national release, under eclipse records, entitled "Xx". Named after their masks, the album was a complitation of their previous three independant releases. Then in December of 2001 They signed to universal, and rereleased "Xx". With 2 extra songs, and a new pink floyed cover as the into to "Born Of Desire", the band was in trouble with "Eclipse Records", stating they were still under contract with them. On December 11th, MTV, MTV2, and MTV X, all unveiled Mushroomheads new music video for "Solitaire/Unraveling".
Now, in 2002, we here at Cleveland Local Music, wish only the best for Clevelands favorite home grown band.
Good luck, Mushroomhead!!!

Waylon? What do you all think about the new frontman Waylon. Have you heard him yet? Or is JMann better?

| i saw a small video clip of him on their site and he sounded ok but i think JMANN is better
| Phantomhoggie | Hell yeah. I bet JMann is way better. Which website was it? | metal_head4ever | www.mushroomhead.com its hidden so when click on the bottom words like" promote , main , media ...etc you will see the mushroomhead logo on small tvs and click on them and it will say that u have found a hidden clip and their you go | Phantomhoggie | | Alright thanks man. | metal_head4ever | ok I've always wondered, with J Mann/Waylon and Jeffery Nothing, which one is the deep voiced one and wich is the higher one? | SlipKnoT_KA | In response to the "JMann is way better thing" it's kind of funny... I've seen them both guys perform live. I saw Waylon RIGHT after JMann left and he had just as much stage presence as JMann AND he sounds pretty damn similar to him... so what gives? What makes JMann that much better than Waylon. They're both awesome vocalists and badass performers... | godheadaddict | Don't get me wrong. Waylon's awsome. But to my ear, JMann has a more better voice. To me JMann has the best voice in metal. It's just my opinion. | metal_head4ever | dude Jmann was the soul of fuckin mushroomhead. waylon just trys way to hard and really wants to be in the band. thats why he goes deep for each song and wont let up on the deep voice. hes tryin to win the crowd over and pretty soon hes ganna end up kicking jeffery out and makin it his own band. they need to get Jmann back!!! | shellshock | I saw Mushroomhead a few months ago, and being that I have been a HUGE fan of theirs for over 10 years(I am from the Cleveland area), I was not sure what to expect from Waylon compared to J Mann, and let me just say that he was AWESOME! You could tell that he loves what he is doing and he is damn good at it. As far as stage presence, he definitely had it, but in my opinion, Jeffrey Nothing has that area covered. He barely has to move at all on stage and he is still amazing to watch! | blondie69722000 | "dude Jmann was the soul of fuckin
mushroomhead."
I'm calling bullshit on that. If he was the soul, he wouldn't have left. He was just what YOU liked about them, saying he was the soul implies that he was the most infuential member, and I'd have to say that would be Skinny | SlipKnoT_KA | | | |
