Spill Canvas Interview

Interview by IndiependentMusic.blogspot.com

1. As an introduction, let's have your name, role in TSC and how was your day so far?
Nick Thomas, I play guitar and sing in Spill. My day was splendid, thank you.

2. What was the reason behind the One Eleven - Sire Records move?
What expectations do you have now that a major label is more involved than in One Eleven? Have there been any changes so far? The reasoning behind the label move was just a growth step that we as a band and musicians wanted to take. The change is just the best way for us to try to get exposed to a wider audience and use amazing resources. Everything in that world is great for us right now.

3. Give us some insight to the new album. What can fans expect (heavy, acoustic, upbeat, etc tracks)? Will any songs on "Denial Feels So Good" be re-recorded for the album?
The new record is the widest spectrum we've attempted conquering as musicians. It's hard to say what it sounds like to me, but I do know I and we have never been more proud of anything we've ever done. The song "Apprecation and the Bomb" will be re-recorded the original way it was written; as opposed to the EP. We went for timeless on this disc, but it's the listeners who decide that.

4. Which usually comes first for TSC: the melody or lyrics? Are the lyrics based on your personal experiences or from those around you?
It depends on the song. These days, I prefer to let the songs find me-it's better when it doesn't feel forced. Melodies and lyrics can find me anytime, 24/7-I'm always on call in a way. Yes, the lyrics are a little autobiographical, but only about 80%. There's nothing wrong with a good story song here and there-even if it's fiction.

5. How's it like working with Neal Avron? How long did it take to make the album and how is this a different experience from the first two full-lengths?
Neal is the best, hands down. He works so hard for what is best for the band. He becomes just as passionate as the band about the record. This one took roughly 3 and a half months to create and it was so much different than the previous two because we felt like we finally were somewhere to show what we could do with music. It felt amazing.

6. Was there a particular reason for covering Donovan and Fleetwood Mac on the EP? And just for fun, which song can you do a mean cover of, but most likely won't put it out on an album?
We love older music-it's the roots of our present and deserves respect-these two jams seemed to fit perfect with well-crafted music from a talented time period. We would love to cover "Hold the Line" by Toto-enough said.

9. Will you guys be performing some new songs during the Warped Tour as a sneak preview?
Possibly, we have one in mind-but that is why you have to come out and see for yourself!

10. We can't wait for the album to be out. Is there an official release date set yet? When can we catch a glimpse of the title/full tracklisting?
No official date yet, but sometime from August to September-the tracklisting may sneak out soon, but again-keep your eyes peeled.

11. Any last words for your fans out there?
Without you, we are nothing-thank you...
