The recipient of a Grammy Nomination an MTV Video Award, 2006 Spirit of Youth Award, and 2005 Artist for A Better World Award. Nadirah Shakoor is a seasoned professional who has performed for thousands at mega concert events such as Lalapalooza, Womad and Woodstock II. In more intimate performances her voice and stage presence have been described as no less than captivating. Nadirah is also a talented songwriter. Her song Purpose to Be was featured in the film At First Sight starring Val Kilmer, and her song Break Away was featured in the film Dark Places. Nadirah collaborated with Speech, and other producers on her debut CD Soul Power, (Toshiba-EMI Japan), and has since independently released two other CDs, Nadirah Songs & Obsessed with Peace.
Many people know Nadirah Shakoor as the lead female vocalist of the ground breaking hip hop group Arrested Development which she joined in 1992 and remained with till the group disbanded in 1995. Others know her as the very soulful back up singer in Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band. Nadirah’s career did not start there however. Raised in Los Angeles California she became one of the areas premiere session singers. Her credits include albums by Nadirah, Arrested Development, Quincy Jones, Madonna, Angela Bofill, Phillip Bailey, Speech, Jody Watley, Jermaine Jackson, Ralph MacDonald, Paula Abdul, and Jimmy Buffett, just to name a few.
In the last few years Nadirah has been collaborating with her long time friend, renowned producer Osunlade, in the House Music genre. Their songs Tree of Life, Pride, and U Touched My Soul are quickly becoming House classics. Just A Breath Away, released in April 2005, sold out twice and had to be repressed a third time. Their latest offering Love Song is a testament to uncompromising artists/songwriters everywhere and has twice been the best selling single of the week on Dancetracksdigital.com
