"The stand out track on this EP has to be ‘Welcome to Arkansas’ and it reminds me of Blonde on Blonde era Bob Dylan, with its upbeat rhythm and quirky harmonica bursts........I can only think of one thing to suggest you do with this CD. Play it."" Sandman Magazine September 2005.
"Singer songwriter Neil McLarty gave the candlelit crowd joyous splendour. McLarty offered more than the usual acoustic wailings that you may expect from a solo acoustic artist." Glasswerk September 2005.
Singer songwriter, Neil McLarty, has known what he wanted to do with his life since he first picked up a guitar at the age of 12. Spending his teenage years and early twenties in different Indie/rock bands with varying degrees of success, Neil has constantly worked on developing his musical skills and song writing in the hope that one day to make it his career.
Influences like Neil Young, Gillian Welsh and Wilco have all had a profound effect on the 26 year old who, on returning to Scotland after university, teamed up with childhood friend Fraser Robertson. The pair started writing together and over time their partnership has grown, creating songs that are now the basis of the material for Neil’s solo shows.
Neil’s music has been met with positives wherever he has played. On one occasion a sound engineer at a gig proclaimed that Neil’s set was “the best music they had ever had at the venue.” While in another instance, after playing at an Alt Country night in Beverly, the venue owner told Neil that he should have been the headline act and duly rewarded him with a free crate of Stella. Who says Rock and Roll doesn’t pay!
Now based in Leeds and on top of playing lead guitar for local band Pigzipper, Neil is trying to build a reputation and name for himself as a talented performer and songwriter. By the looks of recent reviews he might just be heading in the right direction. |
