OCS (John Dwyer of Coachwhips, along with Patrick Mullins) return this year with a double disc
set entitled 3 & 4: Songs About Death and Dying and Get Stoved, two albums filled with tales of the most romantic sensations of any personÕs life: love and death.
Noted for it's muffled, far-off quality, 3 & 4 is a departure from the aggression of Dwyer's other musical pursuits. As the former OCS albums were a bit shy of vocals, 3 & 4 is filled with the sweeter side of this young fellow's voice. A few tracks are
minimalist beauties, but don't let that fool you. The majority of this work is brimming with instrumentation and intoxicating sharp ideas, drenching one from a distance.
Soothingly strumming a pink acoustic guitar with a buzzed out smirk and delivering words as if he were serenading the last girl on earth, OCS punches your face with an hour and ten minutes of some honest to God folk rock n roll.
This is the kind of music thatÕs played only when oneÕs heart is on their sleeve; weighing down their arm and preventing them from waving goodbyeÉbut still allowing the chance to throw the devil horns. |
